Fallen TACAMO Veteran - William R. Missler, VQ-4

1945 - 2006

William R. Missler, U.S. Navy retired, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 29, 2006.

Bill was born on May 14, 1945, in Toledo, OH, where he attended St. Francis De Sales High School and the University of Toledo. His parents, Virginia and Walter Missler, both of Toledo, will miss their son very deeply. He married Judith (Tillman) Missler on February 4, 1967. They were married for 39 wonderful years. Bill was very proud of the 22 years he spent serving his country. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he and his wife remained in St. Mary's County, MD. Bill fought a long and arduous battle against cancer. But during those trying years, he never lost his sense of humor. He collected hats of all kinds and entertained everyone. All who met him couldn't help but laugh at the "man with the funny hats". Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ormsby. He is survived by his wife, Judith; three sons, Christopher (Kylene) of Crestview, FL, Timothy (Colleen) of Okinawa, Japan, Andrew (Jyl) of Round Hill, VA, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Carolyn Brenning and Mary Lou Czerniak, both of Toledo, OH and Kathy Weaver of Temperance, MI, and many relatives and wonderful friends that he considered family. A funeral mass was celebrated on June 5 at St. John's Catholic Church in Hollywood, MD. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be made in memory of Bill for the loving support given to him by the Cancer Support Group of St. Mary's Hospital, P.O. Box 527, Leonardtown, MD 20650; or to the St. John's Building Fund, P.O. Box 69, Hollywood, MD 20636.
