TACAMO Fallen Veteran - Bruce Holden

March 22, 1947 - Tuesday, April 28, 2020


Bruce M Holden, 73, of Solway, MN died at home on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Drive-thru Memorial Service will be held May 2nd, 2:00pm-3:30pm at First Baptist Church, 1555 Paul Bunyan Dr. NW, Bemidji, MN. He was born in Bagley, MN on March 22, 1947 to Bernard and Beth Holden. He grew up on the farm in rural Solway, attended Solway Elementary and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1965. He married Kathryn Mundschenk in January of 1968. They had four children, Todd, Trent, Tanya and Tim. Bruce went into the Navy in 1965 and served on the Kitty Hawk Aircraft Carrier off of Vietnam. He also served on the Kennedy and Nimtz Carriers. After his time in the Navy, Bruce was a jack of all trades. He did carpentry, worked on nuclear plants, was an over-the-road trucker, a head sawyer, sold real estate and had a small farm. Upon retiring he worked with non-profits such as the Legion, VFW and lastly with the Local North Central MN Chapter 7 DAV where he was a past commander, chaplain, judge advocate, and a grant writer for needy disabled vets in our area. He had been an advocate for veterans health needs with North Country Care Givers. He married Mavis (Binder) Urch in July of 1994, a friend from childhood and high school. That added four step-children, Laurelie, Suzan, Rachel and Jared to his family. Together they adopted and raised grandson, Levi. He is survived by his wife Mavis, children Todd, Trent, Tanya Tix and Tim, step-children Laurelie (Dan) Priewe, Suzan (Jim) Harklau, Rachel (Keith) Willard, Jared (Leslie) Urch; brother Robert; grandchildren Megan, Brandon, Levi, Travis, Wyatt, Ariel, Geoffrey, Averie, Ellie, Zach, Luke, Jessica, Maddie, Grant, Damian, Arianna and Donovan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Beth Holden; brothers Leon Holden, Marden Holden; sister-in laws Genevieve Holden, Ruth Holden and Betty Holden.
